Created by Dutch design studio Opstals Interieurmakers, this kitchen in a private home in Susteren (the Netherlands) is a dramatic celebration of how well eclectic combinations of finishes, textures and materials can work together. A painstakingly perfected layout plays with contrasts and interconnecting elements, for a bold yet balanced result. HIMACS forms the sleek surfaces of the two L-shaped islands, and combined with the copper cabinet fronts, makes a striking statement in contemporary kitchen design.
To create an aesthetic harmony that also offers premium functionality, the designers chose to combine a brightly reflective metallic finish with the soft, opaque lustre of HIMACS Alpine White. This effect is further amplified by the sheen of the elegant Calacatta marble that covers the floor, and by the abundance of natural light flooding in from the large French windows looking out onto the terrace.
The kitchen is framed by a system of celling-hung, open black shelving that accentuates the contrast between the pure, fresh white of the worktops and the warmth of the copper cabinets.
HIMACS is mirrored on the twin islands, forming the worktops around the recessed steel sinks to one side and the glass-ceramic hob to the other, as well as making the ideal installation for a designated coffee making zone.
This ultra-versatile solid surface also extends to the fascias of the kitchen islands at the ends of which, towel rails have been ingeniously integrated for elegant convenience.
To fully optimise the material’s potential and add an extra design feature and practical storage element, the designers used HIMACS to create a series of useful shelves and niches at the corner of one island for displaying decorative items and housing appliances such as the wine fridge.
As well as offering outstanding design potential HIMACS is the perfect choice for contemporary kitchen design, thanks to its 15-year warranty and exceptional properties from easy-maintenance to excellent hygiene – certified by an independent laboratory in accordance with LGA and NSF international standards – for safe food handling.
HIMACS is a smooth, non-porous, seamless material, which leaves nowhere for dirt and pathogens to hide. Robust, reliable and resistant, it can also be repaired if needed and, having always been silica-free, is a safe choice for the home.
